The RZ/G3S SMARC Module has 2 KSZ9131 PHYs. In this setup, the KSZ9131 PHY
is used with the ravb Ethernet driver. It has been discovered that when
bringing the Ethernet interface down/up continuously, e.g., with the
following sh script:

$ while :; do ifconfig eth0 down; ifconfig eth0 up; done

the link speed and duplex are wrong after interrupting the bring down/up
operation even though the Ethernet interface is up. To recover from this
state the following configuration sequence is necessary (executed
manually):

$ ifconfig eth0 down
$ ifconfig eth0 up

The behavior has been identified also on the Microchip SAMA7G5-EK board
which runs the macb driver and uses the same PHY.

The order of PHY-related operations in ravb_open() is as follows:
ravb_open() -&gt;
  ravb_phy_start() -&gt;
    ravb_phy_init() -&gt;
      of_phy_connect() -&gt;
        phy_connect_direct() -&gt;
	  phy_attach_direct() -&gt;
	    phy_init_hw() -&gt;
	      phydev-&gt;drv-&gt;soft_reset()
	      phydev-&gt;drv-&gt;config_init()
	      phydev-&gt;drv-&gt;config_intr()
	    phy_resume()
	      kszphy_resume()

The order of PHY-related operations in ravb_close is as follows:

    phy_suspend() -&gt;
      kszphy_suspend() -&gt;
        genphy_suspend()
	  // set BMCR_PDOWN bit in MII_BMCR

In genphy_suspend() setting the BMCR_PDWN bit in MII_BMCR switches the PHY
to Software Power-Down (SPD) mode (according to the KSZ9131 datasheet).
Thus, when opening the interface after it has been  previously closed (via
ravb_close()), the phydev-&gt;drv-&gt;config_init() and
phydev-&gt;drv-&gt;config_intr() reach the KSZ9131 PHY driver via the
ksz9131_config_init() and kszphy_config_intr() functions.

KSZ9131 specifies that the MII management interface remains operational
during SPD (Software Power-Down), but (according to manual):
- Only access to the standard registers (0 through 31) is supported.
- Access to MMD address spaces other than MMD address space 1 is possible
  if the spd_clock_gate_override bit is set.
- Access to MMD address space 1 is not possible.

The spd_clock_gate_override bit is not used in the KSZ9131 driver.

ksz9131_config_init() configures RGMII delay, pad skews and LEDs by
accessesing MMD registers other than those in address space 1.

The datasheet for the KSZ9131 does not specify what happens if registers
from an unsupported address space are accessed while the PHY is in SPD.

To fix the issue the .soft_reset method has been instantiated for KSZ9131,
too. This resets the PHY to the default state before doing any
configurations to it, thus switching it out of SPD.

Currently, if the .probe element is present in the phy_driver structure
and the .driver_data is not, a NULL pointer dereference happens.

Allow passing .probe without .driver_data by inserting NULL checks

Some Micrel KSZ8041NL PHY chips exhibit continuous RX errors after using
the power down mode bit (0.11). If the PHY is taken out of power down
mode in a certain temperature range, the PHY enters a weird state which
leads to continuously reporting RX errors. In that state, the MAC is not
able to receive or send any Ethernet frames and the activity LED is
constantly blinking. Since Linux is using the suspend callback when the
interface is taken down, ending up in that state can easily happen
during a normal startup.

Micrel confirmed the issue in errata DS80000700A [*], caused by abnormal
clock recovery when using power down mode. Even the latest revision (A4,
Revision ID 0x1513) seems to suffer that problem, and according to the
errata is not going to be fixed.

Remove the suspend/resume callback to avoid using the power down mode
completely.

It seems reasonable to fine-tune only some of the skew values when using
one of the rgmii-*id PHY modes, and even when all skew values are
specified, using the correct ID PHY mode makes sense for documentation
purposes. Such a configuration also appears in the binding docs in
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/net/micrel-ksz90x1.txt, so the driver
should not warn about it.

The previously unused phy_driver structure for these devices specifies

fixed link and do not work with the embedded PHYs in the KSZ8795.

implementations which were used previously.

The logic for discerning between KSZ8051 and KSZ87XX PHYs is incorrect
such that the that KSZ87XX switch is not identified correctly.

ksz8051_ksz8795_match_phy_device() uses the parameter ksz_phy_id
to discriminate whether it was called from ksz8051_match_phy_device()
or from ksz8795_match_phy_device() but since PHY_ID_KSZ87XX is the
same value as PHY_ID_KSZ8051, this doesn't work.

Instead use a bool to discriminate the caller.

Without this patch, the KSZ8795 switch port identifies as:

ksz8795-switch spi3.1 ade1 (uninitialized): PHY [dsa-0.1:03] driver [Generic PHY]

With the patch, it identifies correctly:

ksz8795-switch spi3.1 ade1 (uninitialized): PHY [dsa-0.1:03] driver [Micrel KSZ87XX Switch]

At the moment, PORT_MII is reported in the ethtool ops. This is odd
because it is an interface between the MAC and the PHY and no external
port. Some network card drivers will overwrite the port to twisted pair
or fiber, though. Even worse, the MDI/MDIX setting is only used by
ethtool if the port is twisted pair.

Set the port to PORT_TP by default because most PHY drivers are copper

At the moment, PORT_MII is reported in the ethtool ops. This is odd
because it is an interface between the MAC and the PHY and no external
port. Some network card drivers will overwrite the port to twisted pair
or fiber, though. Even worse, the MDI/MDIX setting is only used by
ethtool if the port is twisted pair.

Set the port to PORT_TP by default because most PHY drivers are copper

Following a similar reinstate for the KSZ9031.

Older kernels would use the genphy_soft_reset if the PHY did not implement
a .soft_reset.

Bluntly removing that default may expose a lot of situations where various
PHYs/board implementations won't recover on various changes.
Like with this implementation during a 4.9.x to 5.4.x LTS transition.
I think it's a good thing to remove unwanted soft resets but wonder if it
did open a can of worms?

Atleast this fixes one iMX6 FEC/RMII/8081 combo.

LAN8814 is a low-power, quad-port triple-speed (10BASE-T/100BASETX/1000BASE-T)
Ethernet physical layer transceiver (PHY). It supports transmission and
reception of data on standard CAT-5, as well as CAT-5e and CAT-6, unshielded
twisted pair (UTP) cables.

LAN8814 supports industry-standard QSGMII (Quad Serial Gigabit Media
Independent Interface) and Q-USGMII (Quad Universal Serial Gigabit Media
Independent Interface) providing chip-to-chip connection to four Gigabit
Ethernet MACs using a single serialized link (differential pair) in each
direction.

The LAN8814 SKU supports high-accuracy timestamping functions to
support IEEE-1588 solutions using Microchip Ethernet switches, as well as
customer solutions based on SoCs and FPGAs.

The LAN8804 SKU has same features as that of LAN8814 SKU except that it does
not support 1588, SyncE, or Q-USGMII with PCH/MCH.

This adds support for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T,
QSGMII link with the MAC.
