There are two 'struct timeval' fields in 'struct rusage'.
Unfortunately the definition of timeval is now ambiguous when used in
user space with a libc that has a 64-bit time_t, and this also changes
the 'rusage' definition in user space in a way that is incompatible with
the system call interface.
While there is no good solution to avoid all ambiguity here, change
the definition in the kernel headers to be compatible with the kernel
ABI, using __kernel_old_timeval as an unambiguous base type.
In previous discussions, there was also a plan to add a replacement
for rusage based on 64-bit timestamps and nanosecond resolution,
i.e. 'struct __kernel_timespec'. I have patches for that as well,
if anyone thinks we should do that.

EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text
section is freed up after the initialization.
Commit c5a130325f13 ("ACPI/APEI: Add parameter check before error
injection") exported page_is_ram(), hence the __init annotation should
be removed.
This fixes the modpost warning in ARCH=alpha builds:
WARNING: modpost: vmlinux: page_is_ram: EXPORT_SYMBOL used for init symbol. Remove __init or EXPORT_SYMBOL.

Previously, R_ALPHA_LITERAL relocations would overflow for large kernel
modules.
This was because the Alpha's apply_relocate_add was relying on the kernel's
module loader to have sorted the GOT towards the very end of the module as it
was mapped into memory in order to correctly assign the global pointer. While
this behavior would mostly work fine for small kernel modules, this approach
would overflow on kernel modules with large GOT's since the global pointer
would be very far away from the GOT, and thus, certain entries would be out of
range.
This patch fixes this by instead using the Tru64 behavior of assigning the
global pointer to be 32KB away from the start of the GOT. The change made
in this patch won't work for multi-GOT kernel modules as it makes the
assumption the module only has one GOT located at the beginning of .got,
although for the vast majority kernel modules, this should be fine. Of the
kernel modules that would previously result in a relocation error, none of
them, even modules like nouveau, have even come close to filling up a single
GOT, and they've all worked fine under this patch.

Type 3 instruction fault (FPU insn with FPU disabled) is handled
by quietly enabling FPU and returning. Which is fine, except that
we need to do that both for fault in userland and in the kernel;
the latter *can* legitimately happen - all it takes is this:

- call_pal CLRFEN to clear "FPU enabled" flag and arrange for
a signal delivery (SIGSEGV in this case).
Fixed by moving the handling of type 3 into the common part of
do_entIF(), before we check for kernel vs. user mode.
Incidentally, the check for kernel mode is unidiomatic; the normal
way to do that is !user_mode(regs). The difference is that
the open-coded variant treats any of bits 63..3 of regs->ps being
set as "it's user mode" while the normal approach is to check just
the bit 3. PS is a 4-bit register and regs->ps always will have
bits 63..4 clear, so the open-coded variant here is actually equivalent
to !user_mode(regs). Harder to follow, though...

There are two big uses of do_exit. The first is it's design use to be
the guts of the exit(2) system call. The second use is to terminate
a task after something catastrophic has happened like a NULL pointer
in kernel code.
Add a function make_task_dead that is initialy exactly the same as
do_exit to cover the cases where do_exit is called to handle
catastrophic failure. In time this can probably be reduced to just a
light wrapper around do_task_dead. For now keep it exactly the same so
that there will be no behavioral differences introducing this new
concept.
Replace all of the uses of do_exit that use it for catastraphic
task cleanup with make_task_dead to make it clear what the code
is doing.
As part of this rename rewind_stack_do_exit
rewind_stack_and_make_dead.

We only want to take the slow path if SYSCALL_TRACE or SYSCALL_AUDIT is
set; on !AUDIT_SYSCALL configs the current tree hits it whenever _any_
thread flag (including NEED_RESCHED, NOTIFY_SIGNAL, etc.) happens to
be set.

This issue was noticed while debugging a shutdown issue where some
secondary CPUs are not being shutdown correctly. A fix for that [1] requires
that secondary cpus be offlined using the cpu_online_mask so that the
stop operation is a no-op if CPU HOTPLUG is disabled. I, like the author in
[1] looked at the architectures and found that alpha is one of two
architectures that executes smp_send_stop() on all possible CPUs.
On alpha, smp_send_stop() sends an IPI to all possible CPUs but only needs
to send them to online CPUs.
Send the stop IPI to only the online CPUs.

The commits cd0e00c10672 and 92d7223a7423 broke boot on the Alpha Avanti
platform. The patches move memory barriers after a write before the write.
The result is that if there's iowrite followed by ioread, there is no
barrier between them.
The Alpha architecture allows reordering of the accesses to the I/O space,
and the missing barrier between write and read causes hang with serial
port and real time clock.
This patch makes barriers confiorm to the specification.
1. We add mb() before readX_relaxed and writeX_relaxed -
memory-barriers.txt claims that these functions must be ordered w.r.t.
each other. Alpha doesn't order them, so we need an explicit barrier.
2. We add mb() before reads from the I/O space - so that if there's a
write followed by a read, there should be a barrier between them.

While the default ->mmap and ->get_sgtable implementations work for the
majority of our dma_map_ops impementations they are inherently safe
for others that don't use the page allocator or CMA and/or use their
own way of remapping not covered by the common code. So remove the
defaults if these methods are not wired up, but instead wire up the
default implementations for all safe instances.

A while ago Arnd made it possible to give new system calls the same
syscall number on all architectures (except alpha). To not break this
nice new feature let's mark 435 for clone3 as reserved on all
architectures that do not yet implement it.
Even if an architecture does not plan to implement it this ensures that
new system calls coming after clone3 will have the same number on all
architectures.

Pull pidfd updates from Christian Brauner:
"This adds two main features.
- First, it adds polling support for pidfds. This allows process
managers to know when a (non-parent) process dies in a race-free
way.
The notification mechanism used follows the same logic that is
currently used when the parent of a task is notified of a child's
death. With this patchset it is possible to put pidfds in an
{e}poll loop and get reliable notifications for process (i.e.
thread-group) exit.
- The second feature compliments the first one by making it possible
to retrieve pollable pidfds for processes that were not created
using CLONE_PIDFD.
A lot of processes get created with traditional PID-based calls
such as fork() or clone() (without CLONE_PIDFD). For these
processes a caller can currently not create a pollable pidfd. This
is a problem for Android's low memory killer (LMK) and service
managers such as systemd.
Both patchsets are accompanied by selftests.
It's perhaps worth noting that the work done so far and the work done
in this branch for pidfd_open() and polling support do already see
some adoption:
- Android is in the process of backporting this work to all their LTS
kernels [1]
- Service managers make use of pidfd_send_signal but will need to
wait until we enable waiting on pidfds for full adoption.
- And projects I maintain make use of both pidfd_send_signal and
CLONE_PIDFD [2] and will use polling support and pidfd_open() too"

"A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
task.
The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.
Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.
This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and

As synchronous exceptions really only make sense against the current
task (otherwise how are you synchronous) remove the task parameter
from from force_sig_fault to make it explicit that is what is going
on.
The two known exceptions that deliver a synchronous exception to a
stopped ptraced task have already been changed to
force_sig_fault_to_task.
The callers have been changed with the following emacs regular expression
(with obvious variations on the architectures that take more arguments)
to avoid typos:

A few architectures use <asm/segment.h> internally, but nothing in
common code does. Remove all the empty or almost empty versions of it,
including the asm-generic one.

Add the io_uring and pidfd_send_signal system calls to all architectures.
These system calls are designed to handle both native and compat tasks,
so all entries are the same across architectures, only arm-compat and
the generic tale still use an old format.

specifiers. The former are deprecated, therefore switch the current users
to use the preferred variant.

Add check for the return value of memblock_alloc*() functions and call
panic() in case of error. The panic message repeats the one used by
panicing memblock allocators with adjustment of parameters to include
only relevant ones.
The replacement was mostly automated with semantic patches like the one
below with manual massaging of format strings.

memory allocation. When it is 0, the call is equivalent to
memblock_alloc().

This adds 21 new system calls on each ABI that has 32-bit time_t
today. All of these have the exact same semantics as their existing
counterparts, and the new ones all have macro names that end in 'time64'
for clarification.
This gets us to the point of being able to safely use a C library
that has 64-bit time_t in user space. There are still a couple of
loose ends to tie up in various areas of the code, but this is the
big one, and should be entirely uncontroversial at this point.
In particular, there are four system calls (getitimer, setitimer,
waitid, and getrusage) that don't have a 64-bit counterpart yet,
but these can all be safely implemented in the C library by wrapping
around the existing system calls because the 32-bit time_t they
pass only counts elapsed time, not time since the epoch. They
will be dealt with later.

struct timex is not y2038 safe.
Replace all uses of timex with y2038 safe __kernel_timex.
Note that struct __kernel_timex is an ABI interface definition.
We could define a new structure based on __kernel_timex that
is only available internally instead. Right now, there isn't
a strong motivation for this as the structure is isolated to
a few defined struct timex interfaces and such a structure would
be exactly the same as struct timex.

Alpha has traditionally followed the OSF1 calling conventions
here, with its getxpid, getxuid, getxgid system calls returning
two different values in separate registers.
Following what glibc has done here, we can define getpid,
getuid and getgid to be aliases for getxpid, getxuid and getxgid
respectively, and add new system call numbers for getppid, geteuid
and getegid.

As Joseph Myers points out, alpha has never had a standard statfs64
interface and instead returns only 32-bit numbers here.
While there is an old osf_statfs64 system call that returns additional
data, this has some other quirks and does not get used in glibc.
I considered making the stat64 structure layout compatible with
with the one used by the kernel on most other 64 bit architecture that
implement it (ia64, parisc, powerpc, and sparc), but in the end
decided to stay with the one that was traditionally defined in
the alpha headers but not used, since this is also what glibc
exposes to user space.

Most architectures define system call numbers for the rseq and pkey system
calls, even when they don't support the features, and perhaps never will.
Only a few architectures are missing these, so just define them anyway
for consistency. If we decide to add them later to one of these, the
system call numbers won't get out of sync then.

The behavior of these system calls is slightly different between
architectures, as determined by the CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_IPC_PARSE_VERSION
symbol. Most architectures that implement the split IPC syscalls don't set
that symbol and only get the modern version, but alpha, arm, microblaze,
mips-n32, mips-n64 and xtensa expect the caller to pass the IPC_64 flag.
For the architectures that so far only implement sys_ipc(), i.e. m68k,
mips-o32, powerpc, s390, sh, sparc, and x86-32, we want the new behavior
when adding the split syscalls, so we need to distinguish between the
two groups of architectures.
The method I picked for this distinction is to have a separate system call
entry point: sys_old_*ctl() now uses ipc_parse_version, while sys_*ctl()
does not. The system call tables of the five architectures are changed
accordingly.
As an additional benefit, we no longer need the configuration specific
definition for ipc_parse_version(), it always does the same thing now,
but simply won't get called on architectures with the modern interface.
A small downside is that on architectures that do set
ARCH_WANT_IPC_PARSE_VERSION, we now have an extra set of entry points
that are never called. They only add a few bytes of bloat, so it seems
better to keep them compared to adding yet another Kconfig symbol.
I considered adding new syscall numbers for the IPC_64 variants for
consistency, but decided against that for now.

Other architectures commonly use __NR_umount2 for sys_umount,
only ia64 and alpha use __NR_umount here. In order to synchronize
the generated tables, use umount2 like everyone else, and add back
the old name from asm/unistd.h for compatibility.
For shmat, alpha uses the osf_shmat name, we can do the same thing
here, which means we don't have to add an entry in the __IGNORE
list now that shmat is mandatory everywhere
alarm, creat, pause, time, and utime are optional everywhere
these days, no need to list them here any more.
I considered also adding the regular versions of the get*id system
calls that have different names and calling conventions on alpha,
which would further help unify the syscall ABI, but for now
I decided against that.
