2024-08-07KVM: arm64: Enforce dependency on an ARMv8.4-aware toolchainMarc Zyngier1-0/+1
With the NV support of TLBI-range operations, KVM makes use of instructions that are only supported by binutils versions >= 2.30. This breaks the build for very old toolchains. Make KVM support conditional on having ARMv8.4 support in the assembler, side-stepping the issue. checking" This reverts commits 99101dda29e3186b1356b0dc4dbb835c02c71ac9 and b80b701d5a67d07f4df4a21e09cb31f6bc1feeca. Linus reports that the sysreg reserved bit checks in KVM have led to build failures, arising from commit fdd867fe9b32 ("arm64/sysreg: Add register fields for ID_AA64DFR1_EL1") giving meaning to fields that were previously RES0. Of course, this is a genuine issue, since KVM's sysreg emulation depends heavily on the definition of reserved fields. But at this point the build breakage is far more offensive, and the right course of action is to revert and retry later. All of these build-time assertions were on by default before commit 99101dda29e3 ("KVM: arm64: Make build-time check of RES0/RES1 bits optional"), so deliberately revert it all atomically to avoid introducing further breakage of bisection. 2024-02-08kvm: replace __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM with Kconfig symbolPaolo Bonzini1-0/+1
KVM uses __KVM_HAVE_* symbols in the architecture-dependent uapi/asm/kvm.h to mask unused definitions in include/uapi/linux/kvm.h. __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM however was nothing but a misguided attempt to define KVM_CAP_READONLY_MEM only on architectures where KVM_CHECK_EXTENSION(KVM_CAP_READONLY_MEM) could possibly return nonzero. This however does not make sense, and it prevented userspace from supporting this architecture-independent feature without recompilation. Therefore, these days __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM does not mask anything and is only used in virt/kvm/kvm_main.c. Userspace does not need to test it and there should be no need for it to exist. 2024-01-08KVM: introduce CONFIG_KVM_COMMONPaolo Bonzini1-2/+1
CONFIG_HAVE_KVM is currently used by some architectures to either enabled the KVM config proper, or to enable host-side code that is not part of the KVM module. However, CONFIG_KVM's "select" statement in virt/kvm/Kconfig corresponds to a third meaning, namely to enable common Kconfigs required by all architectures that support KVM. These three meanings can be replaced respectively by an architecture-specific Kconfig, by IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_KVM), or by a new Kconfig symbol that is in turn selected by the architecture-specific "config KVM". Start by introducing such a new Kconfig symbol, CONFIG_KVM_COMMON. Unlike CONFIG_HAVE_KVM, it is selected by CONFIG_KVM, not by architecture code, and it brings in all dependencies of common KVM code. In particular, INTERVAL_TREE was missing in loongarch and riscv, so that is another thing that is fixed. Convert KVM_ARCH_WANT_MMU_NOTIFIER into a Kconfig and select it where appropriate to effectively maintain existing behavior. Using a proper Kconfig will simplify building more functionality on top of KVM's mmu_notifier infrastructure. Add a forward declaration of kvm_gfn_range to kvm_types.h so that including arch/powerpc/include/asm/kvm_ppc.h's with CONFIG_KVM=n doesn't generate warnings due to kvm_gfn_range being undeclared. 2023-08-17KVM: arm64: Use kvm_arch_flush_remote_tlbs()Raghavendra Rao Ananta1-1/+0
Stop depending on CONFIG_HAVE_KVM_ARCH_TLB_FLUSH_ALL and opt to standardize on kvm_arch_flush_remote_tlbs() since it avoids duplicating the generic TLB stats across architectures that implement their own remote TLB flush. This adds an extra function call to the ARM64 kvm_flush_remote_tlbs() path, but that is a small cost in comparison to flushing remote TLBs. In addition, instead of just incrementing remote_tlb_flush_requests stat, the generic interface would also increment the remote_tlb_flush stat. 2022-12-29KVM: Opt out of generic hardware enabling on s390 and PPCSean Christopherson1-0/+1
Allow architectures to opt out of the generic hardware enabling logic, and opt out on both s390 and PPC, which don't need to manually enable virtualization as it's always on (when available). In addition to letting s390 and PPC drop a bit of dead code, this will hopefully also allow ARM to clean up its related code, e.g. ARM has its own per-CPU flag to track which CPUs have enable hardware due to the need to keep hardware enabled indefinitely when pKVM is enabled. 2021-12-08KVM: Use interval tree to do fast hva lookup in memslotsMaciej S. Szmigiero1-0/+1
The current memslots implementation only allows quick binary search by gfn, quick lookup by hva is not possible - the implementation has to do a linear scan of the whole memslots array, even though the operation being performed might apply just to a single memslot. This significantly hurts performance of per-hva operations with higher memslot counts. Since hva ranges can overlap between memslots an interval tree is needed for tracking them. 2021-11-17perf: Force architectures to opt-in to guest callbacksSean Christopherson1-0/+1
Introduce GUEST_PERF_EVENTS and require architectures to select it to allow registering and using guest callbacks in perf. This will hopefully make it more difficult for new architectures to add useless "support" for guest callbacks, e.g. via copy+paste. Stubbing out the helpers has the happy bonus of avoiding a load of perf_guest_cbs when GUEST_PERF_EVENTS=n on arm64/x86. 2021-10-11KVM: arm64: Unconditionally include generic KVM's KconfigSean Christopherson1-6/+2
Unconditionally "source" the generic KVM Kconfig instead of wrapping it with KVM=y. A future patch will select HAVE_KVM so that referencing HAVE_KVM in common kernel code doesn't break, and because KVM=y and HAVE_KVM=n is weird. Source the generic KVM Kconfig unconditionally so that HAVE_KVM and KVM don't end up with a circular dependency. Note, all but one of generic KVM's "configs" are of the HAVE_XYZ nature, and the one outlier correctly takes a dependency on CONFIG_KVM, i.e. the generic Kconfig is intended to be included unconditionally. No functional change intended. Introduce a poor man's lockdep implementation at EL2 which allows to BUG() whenever a hyp spinlock is not held when it should. Hide this feature behind a new Kconfig option that targets the EL2 object specifically, instead of piggy backing on the existing CONFIG_LOCKDEP. EL2 cannot WARN() cleanly to report locking issues, hence BUG() is the only option and it is not clear whether we want this widely enabled. This is most likely going to be useful for local testing until the EL2 WARN() situation has improved. The spectre mitigations are too configurable for their own good, leading to confusing logic trying to figure out when we should mitigate and when we shouldn't. Although the plethora of command-line options need to stick around for backwards compatibility, the default-on CONFIG options that depend on EXPERT can be dropped, as the mitigations only do anything if the system is vulnerable, a mitigation is available and the command-line hasn't disabled it. 2020-04-01vhost: refine vhost and vringh kconfigJason Wang1-2/+0
Currently, CONFIG_VHOST depends on CONFIG_VIRTUALIZATION. But vhost is not necessarily for VM since it's a generic userspace and kernel communication protocol. Such dependency may prevent archs without virtualization support from using vhost. To solve this, a dedicated vhost menu is created under drivers so CONIFG_VHOST can be decoupled out of CONFIG_VIRTUALIZATION. While at it, also squash Kconfig.vringh into vhost Kconfig file. This avoids the trick of conditional inclusion from VOP or CAIF. Then it will be easier to introduce new vringh users and common dependency for both vringh and vhost. Implement the service call for configuring a shared structure between a VCPU and the hypervisor in which the hypervisor can write the time stolen from the VCPU's execution time by other tasks on the host. User space allocates memory which is placed at an IPA also chosen by user space. The hypervisor then updates the shared structure using kvm_put_guest() to ensure single copy atomicity of the 64-bit value reporting the stolen time in nanoseconds. Whenever stolen time is enabled by the guest, the stolen time counter is reset. The stolen time itself is retrieved from the sched_info structure maintained by the Linux scheduler code. 2018-05-25KVM: arm64: Optimise FPSIMD handling to reduce guest/host thrashingDave Martin1-0/+1
This patch refactors KVM to align the host and guest FPSIMD save/restore logic with each other for arm64. This reduces the number of redundant save/restore operations that must occur, and reduces the common-case IRQ blackout time during guest exit storms by saving the host state lazily and optimising away the need to restore the host state before returning to the run loop. Four hooks are defined in order to enable this: * kvm_arch_vcpu_run_map_fp(): Called on PID change to map necessary bits of current to Hyp. * kvm_arch_vcpu_load_fp(): Set up FP/SIMD for entering the KVM run loop (parse as "vcpu_load fp"). * kvm_arch_vcpu_ctxsync_fp(): Get FP/SIMD into a safe state for re-enabling interrupts after a guest exit back to the run loop. For arm64 specifically, this involves updating the host kernel's FPSIMD context tracking metadata so that kernel-mode NEON use will cause the vcpu's FPSIMD state to be saved back correctly into the vcpu struct. This must be done before re-enabling interrupts because kernel-mode NEON may be used by softirqs. * kvm_arch_vcpu_put_fp(): Save guest FP/SIMD state back to memory and dissociate from the CPU ("vcpu_put fp"). Also, the arm64 FPSIMD context switch code is updated to enable it to save back FPSIMD state for a vcpu, not just current. A few helpers drive this: * fpsimd_bind_state_to_cpu(struct user_fpsimd_state *fp): mark this CPU as having context fp (which may belong to a vcpu) currently loaded in its registers. This is the non-task equivalent of the static function fpsimd_bind_to_cpu() in fpsimd.c. * task_fpsimd_save(): exported to allow KVM to save the guest's FPSIMD state back to memory on exit from the run loop. * fpsimd_flush_state(): invalidate any context's FPSIMD state that is currently loaded. Used to disassociate the vcpu from the CPU regs on run loop exit. These changes allow the run loop to enable interrupts (and thus softirqs that may use kernel-mode NEON) without having to save the guest's FPSIMD state eagerly. Some new vcpu_arch fields are added to make all this work. Because host FPSIMD state can now be saved back directly into current's thread_struct as appropriate, host_cpu_context is no longer used for preserving the FPSIMD state. However, it is still needed for preserving other things such as the host's system registers. To avoid ABI churn, the redundant storage space in host_cpu_context is not removed for now. arch/arm is not addressed by this patch and continues to use its current save/restore logic. It could provide implementations of the helpers later if desired. That way, being able to obtain VBAR_EL2 doesn't reveal the mapping of the rest of the hypervisor code.
