2025-02-19drm/mediatek: mtk_hdmi: Unregister audio platform device on failureAngeloGioacchino Del Regno1-6/+19
The probe function of this driver may fail after registering the audio platform device: in that case, the state is not getting cleaned up, leaving this device registered. Adding up to the mix, should the probe function of this driver return a probe deferral for N times, we're registering up to N audio platform devices and, again, never freeing them up. 2024-12-01Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver structLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a comment to that effect: /* * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove(). * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped. */ This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with '.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs to make things line up. I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used spaces to line things up. Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2024-06-08drm/mediatek: Drop chain_mode_fixup call in mode_valid()Sam Ravnborg1-11/+0
The mode_valid implementation had a call to drm_bridge_chain_mode_fixup() which would be wrong as the mode_valid is not allowed to change anything - only to validate the mode. As the next bridge is often/always a connector the call had no effect anyway. So drop it. From the git history I could see this call was included in the original version of the driver so there was no help there to find out why it was added in the first place. But a lot has changed since the initial driver were added and is seems safe to remove the call now. 2023-09-09drm/mediatek: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the mediatek drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-11-14drm/mediatek: Fix return type of mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid()Nathan Chancellor1-3/+4
With clang's kernel control flow integrity (kCFI, CONFIG_CFI_CLANG), indirect call targets are validated against the expected function pointer prototype to make sure the call target is valid to help mitigate ROP attacks. If they are not identical, there is a failure at run time, which manifests as either a kernel panic or thread getting killed. A proposed warning in clang aims to catch these at compile time, which reveals: drivers/gpu/drm/mediatek/mtk_hdmi.c:1407:16: error: incompatible function pointer types initializing 'enum drm_mode_status (*)(struct drm_bridge *, const struct drm_display_info *, const struct drm_display_mode *)' with an expression of type 'int (struct drm_bridge *, const struct drm_display_info *, const struct drm_display_mode *)' [-Werror,-Wincompatible-function-pointer-types-strict] .mode_valid = mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid, ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 error generated. ->mode_valid() in 'struct drm_bridge_funcs' expects a return type of 'enum drm_mode_status', not 'int'. 2021-12-13drm/mediatek: hdmi: Perform NULL pointer check for mtk_hdmi_confAngeloGioacchino Del Regno1-5/+7
In commit 41ca9caaae0b ("drm/mediatek: hdmi: Add check for CEA modes only") a check for CEA modes was added to function mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid() in order to address possible issues on MT8167; moreover, with commit c91026a938c2 ("drm/mediatek: hdmi: Add optional limit on maximal HDMI mode clock") another similar check was introduced. Unfortunately though, at the time of writing, MT8173 does not provide any mtk_hdmi_conf structure and this is crashing the kernel with NULL pointer upon entering mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid(), which happens as soon as a HDMI cable gets plugged in. To fix this regression, add a NULL pointer check for hdmi->conf in the said function, restoring HDMI functionality and avoiding NULL pointer kernel panics. 2021-04-01drm/mediatek: Don't support hdmi connector creationDafna Hirschfeld1-95/+56
commit f01195148967 ("drm/mediatek: mtk_dpi: Create connector for bridges") broke the display support for elm device since mtk_dpi calls drm_bridge_attach with the flag DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR while mtk_hdmi does not yet support this flag. Fix this by accepting DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR in bridge attachment. Implement the drm_bridge_funcs .detect() and .get_edid() operations, and call drm_bridge_hpd_notify() to report HPD. This provides the necessary API to support disabling connector creation. In addition, the field 'conn' is removed from the mtk_hdmi struct since mtk_hdmi don't create a connector. It is replaced with a pointer 'curr_conn' that points to the current connector which can be access through the global state. This patch is inspired by a similar patch for bridge/synopsys/dw-hdmi.c: commit ec971aaa6775 ("drm: bridge: dw-hdmi: Make connector creation optional") But with the difference that in mtk-hdmi only the option of not creating a connector is supported. 2021-04-01drm/mediatek: Switch the hdmi bridge ops to the atomic versionsDafna Hirschfeld1-8/+15
The bridge operation '.enable' and the audio cb '.get_eld' access hdmi->conn. In the future we will want to support the flag DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR and then we will not have direct access to the connector. The atomic version '.atomic_enable' allows accessing the current connector from the state. This patch switches the bridge to the atomic version to prepare access to the connector in later patches.
