2024-05-22tracing/treewide: Remove second parameter of __assign_str()Steven Rostedt (Google)1-2/+2
With the rework of how the __string() handles dynamic strings where it saves off the source string in field in the helper structure[1], the assignment of that value to the trace event field is stored in the helper value and does not need to be passed in again. This means that with: __string(field, mystring) Which use to be assigned with __assign_str(field, mystring), no longer needs the second parameter and it is unused. With this, __assign_str() will now only get a single parameter. There's over 700 users of __assign_str() and because coccinelle does not handle the TRACE_EVENT() macro I ended up using the following sed script: git grep -l __assign_str | while read a ; do sed -e 's/\(__assign_str([^,]*[^ ,]\) *,[^;]*/\1)/' $a > /tmp/test-file; mv /tmp/test-file $a; done I then searched for __assign_str() that did not end with ';' as those were multi line assignments that the sed script above would fail to catch. Note, the same updates will need to be done for: __assign_str_len() __assign_rel_str() __assign_rel_str_len() I tested this with both an allmodconfig and an allyesconfig (build only for both). 2021-09-27IB/hfi1: Add ring consumer and producers tracesMike Marciniszyn1-1/+62
These traces are used to debugging ring issues. The ipoib_txreq needed to be moved to a header file to allow access from the trace header file. 2021-09-27IB/hfi1: Tune netdev xmit cachelinesMike Marciniszyn1-4/+4
This patch moves fields in the ring and creates a line for the producer and the consumer. The adds a consumer side variable that tracks the ring avail so that the code doesn't have the read the other cacheline to get a count for every packet. A read now only occurs when the avail is at 0. 2021-06-30treewide: Add missing semicolons to __assign_str usesJoe Perches1-4/+4

2019-11-27ftrace: Rework event_create_dir()Peter Zijlstra1-1/+1
Rework event_create_dir() to use an array of static data instead of function pointers where possible. The problem is that it would call the function pointer on module load before parse_args(), possibly even before jump_labels were initialized. Luckily the generated functions don't use jump_labels but it still seems fragile. It also gets in the way of changing when we make the module map executable. The generated function are basically calling trace_define_field() with a bunch of static arguments. So instead of a function, capture these arguments in a static array, avoiding the function call. Now there are a number of cases where the fields are dynamic (syscall arguments, kprobes and uprobes), in which case a static array does not work, for these we preserve the function call. Luckily all these cases are not related to modules and so we can retain the function call for them. Also fix up all broken tracepoint definitions that now generate a compile error. 2017-05-04IB/hfi1: Fix yield logic in send engineMike Marciniszyn1-0/+34
When there are many RC QPs and an RDMA READ request is sent, timeouts occur on the requester side because of fairness among RC QPs on their relative SDMA engine on the responder side. This also hits write and send, but to a lesser extent. Complicating the issue is that the current code checks if workqueue is congested before scheduling other QPs, however, this check is based on the number of active entries in the workqueue, which was found to be too big to for workqueue_congested() to be effective. Fix by reducing the number of active entries as revealed by experimentation from the default of num_sdma to HFI1_MAX_ACTIVE_WORKQUEUE_ENTRIES. Retry counts were monitored to determine the correct value. Tracing to investigate any future issues is also added. 2016-08-02IB/hfi1: Separate tracepoints into specific headersSebastian Sanchez1-0/+642
The ftrace infrastructure used to evaluate the TRACE_SYSTEM macro on every DEFINE_EVENT() macro. Now the TRACE_SYSTEM macro only gets evaluated when trace/define_trace.h is included, so the group event information is lost. This was introduced in commit acd388fd3af3 ("tracing: Give system name a pointer") Therefore, each system tracepoint must be on its own file.
