2018-07-04media: rcar-vin: Cache the mbus configuration flagsJacopo Mondi1-11/+21
Media bus configuration flags and media bus type were so far a property of each VIN instance, as the subdevice they were connected to was immutable during the whole system life time. With the forth-coming introduction of parallel input devices support, a VIN instance can have the subdevice it is connected to switched at runtime, from a CSI-2 subdevice to a parallel one and viceversa, through the modification of links between media entities in the media controller graph. To avoid discarding the per-subdevice configuration flags retrieved by v4l2_fwnode parsing facilities, cache them in the 'rvin_graph_entity' member of each VIN instance, opportunely renamed to 'rvin_parallel_entity'. Also modify the register configuration function to take mbus flags into account when running on a bus type that supports them. The media bus type currently in use will be updated in a follow-up patch to the link state change notification function. 2018-06-28media: rcar-vin: sync which hardware buffer to start capture fromNiklas Söderlund1-1/+15
When starting the VIN capture procedure we are not guaranteed that the first buffer written to is VnMB1 to which we assigned the first buffer queued. This is problematic for two reasons. Buffers might not be dequeued in the same order they where queued for capture. Future features planed for the VIN driver is support for outputting frames in SEQ_TB/BT format and to do that it's important that capture starts from the first buffer slot, VnMB1. We are guaranteed that capturing always happens in sequence (VnMB1 -> VnMB2 -> VnMB3 -> VnMB1). So drop up to two frames when starting capturing so that the driver always returns buffers in the same order they are queued and prepare for SEQ_TB/BT output. 2018-05-05media: rcar-vin: enable field toggle after a set number of lines for Gen3Niklas Söderlund1-5/+15
The VIN Gen3 hardware don't have Line Post-Clip capabilities as VIN Gen2 hardware have. To protect against writing outside the capture window enable field toggle after a set number of lines have been captured. Capturing outside the allocated capture buffer where observed on R-Car Gen3 Salvator-XS H3 from the CVBS input if the standard is misconfigured. That is if a PAL source is connected to the system but the adv748x standard is set to NTSC. In this case the format reported by the adv748x is 720x480 and that is what is used for the media pipeline. The PAL source generates frames in the format of 720x576 and the field is not toggled until the VSYNC is detected and at that time data have already been written outside the allocated capture buffer. With this change the capture in the situation described above results in garbage frames but that is far better then writing outside the capture buffer. alternate fields) There was never proper support in the VIN driver to deliver ALTERNATING field format to user-space, remove this field option. The problem is that ALTERNATING field order requires the sequence numbers of buffers returned to userspace to reflect if fields were dropped or not, something which is not possible with the VIN drivers capture logic. The VIN driver can still capture from a video source which delivers frames in ALTERNATING field order, but needs to combine them using the VIN hardware into INTERLACED field order. Before this change if a source was delivering fields using ALTERNATE the driver would default to combining them using this hardware feature. Only if the user explicitly requested ALTERNATE field order would incorrect frames be delivered. The height should not be cut in half for the format for TOP or BOTTOM fields settings. This was a mistake and it was made visible by the scaling refactoring. Correct behavior is that the user should request a frame size that fits the half height frame reflected in the field setting. If not the VIN will do its best to scale the top or bottom to the requested format and cropping and scaling do not work as expected. 2018-03-22media: rcar-vin: use scratch buffer and always run in continuous modeNiklas Söderlund1-136/+51
Instead of switching capture mode depending on how many buffers are available use a scratch buffer and always run in continuous mode. By using a scratch buffer the responsiveness of the capture loop is increased as it can keep running even if there are no buffers available from userspace. As soon as a userspace queues a buffer it is inserted into the capture loop and returned as soon as it is filled. This is a improvement on the previous logic where the whole capture loop was stopped and switched to single capture mode if userspace did not feed the VIN driver buffers at the same time it consumed them. To make matters worse it was difficult for the driver to reenter continuous mode if it entered single mode even if userspace started to queue buffers faster. This resulted in suboptimal performance where if userspace where delayed for a short period the ongoing capture would be slowed down and run in single mode until the capturing process where restarted. An additional effect of this change is that the capture logic can be made much simple as we know that continuous mode will always be used. Before starting a capture, allocate a scratch buffer which can be used by the driver to give to the hardware if no buffers are available from userspace. The buffer is not used in this patch but prepares for future refactoring where the scratch buffer can be used to avoid the need to fallback on single capture mode if userspace can't queue buffers as fast as the VIN driver consumes them. 2017-06-06[media] rcar-vin: allow switch between capturing modes when stallingNiklas Söderlund1-5/+17
If userspace can't feed the driver with buffers as fast as the driver consumes them the driver will stop video capturing and wait for more buffers from userspace, the driver is stalled. Once it have been feed one or more free buffers it will recover from the stall and resume capturing. Instead of continue to capture using the same capture mode as before the stall allow the driver to choose between single and continuous mode based on free buffer availability. Do this by stopping capturing when the driver becomes stalled and restart capturing once it continues. By doing this the capture mode will be evaluated each time the driver is recovering from a stall. This behavior is needed to fix a bug where continuous capturing mode is used, userspace is about to stop the stream and is waiting for the last buffers to be returned from the driver and is not queuing any new buffers. In this case the driver becomes stalled when there are only 3 buffers remaining streaming will never resume since the driver is waiting for userspace to feed it more buffers before it can continue streaming. With this fix the driver will then switch to single capture mode for the last 3 buffers and a deadlock is avoided. The issue can be demonstrated using yavta. $ yavta -f RGB565 -s 640x480 -n 4 --capture=10 /dev/video22 Device /dev/video22 opened. The HW can capture both ODD and EVEN fields in separate buffers so it's possible to support V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE. This patch add support for this mode. At probe time and when S_STD is called the driver will default to use V4L2_FIELD_INTERLACED if the subdevice reports V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE. The driver will only change the field type if the subdevice implements G_STD, if not it will keep the default at V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE. The user can always explicitly ask for V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE in S_FMT and the driver will use that field format. 2016-09-19[media] adv7180: rcar-vin: change mbus format to UYVYNiklas Söderlund1-2/+2
The media bus format reported by the adv7180 is wrong. Steve Longerbeam posted a patch which changed the format to UYVY8_2X8 with the commit message: Change the media bus format from YUYV8_2X8 to UYVY8_2X8. Colors now look correct when capturing with the i.mx6 backend. The other option is to set the SWPC bit in register 0x27 to swap the Cr and Cb output samples. The rcar-vin driver was developed and tested with the adv7180 and therefor suffers from the same issue, looking for the wrong media bus format. The two errors corrected each other. This patch takes Steve's patch and merge it with a fix for rcar-vin driver. The rcar-vin driver is used used in together with the adv7180 och Koelsch and this ensures it will not break while fixing the adv7180 issue. I checked wit Steve and he was fine with me merging the patches.
