2024-03-05igc: avoid returning frame twice in XDP_REDIRECTFlorian Kauer1-7/+6
When a frame can not be transmitted in XDP_REDIRECT (e.g. due to a full queue), it is necessary to free it by calling xdp_return_frame_rx_napi. However, this is the responsibility of the caller of the ndo_xdp_xmit (see for example bq_xmit_all in kernel/bpf/devmap.c) and thus calling it inside igc_xdp_xmit (which is the ndo_xdp_xmit of the igc driver) as well will lead to memory corruption. In fact, bq_xmit_all expects that it can return all frames after the last successfully transmitted one. Therefore, break for the first not transmitted frame, but do not call xdp_return_frame_rx_napi in igc_xdp_xmit. This is equally implemented in other Intel drivers such as the igb. There are two alternatives to this that were rejected: 1. Return num_frames as all the frames would have been transmitted and release them inside igc_xdp_xmit. While it might work technically, it is not what the return value is meant to represent (i.e. the number of SUCCESSFULLY transmitted packets). 2. Rework kernel/bpf/devmap.c and all drivers to support non-consecutively dropped packets. Besides being complex, it likely has a negative performance impact without a significant gain since it is anyway unlikely that the next frame can be transmitted if the previous one was dropped. The memory corruption can be reproduced with the following script which leads to a kernel panic after a few seconds. It basically generates more traffic than a i225 NIC can transmit and pushes it via XDP_REDIRECT from a virtual interface to the physical interface where frames get dropped. #!/bin/bash INTERFACE=enp4s0 INTERFACE_IDX=`cat /sys/class/net/$INTERFACE/ifindex` sudo ip link add dev veth1 type veth peer name veth2 sudo ip link set up $INTERFACE sudo ip link set up veth1 sudo ip link set up veth2 cat << EOF > redirect.bpf.c SEC("prog") int redirect(struct xdp_md *ctx) { return bpf_redirect($INTERFACE_IDX, 0); } char _license[] SEC("license") = "GPL"; EOF clang -O2 -g -Wall -target bpf -c redirect.bpf.c -o redirect.bpf.o sudo ip link set veth2 xdp obj redirect.bpf.o cat << EOF > pass.bpf.c SEC("prog") int pass(struct xdp_md *ctx) { return XDP_PASS; } char _license[] SEC("license") = "GPL"; EOF clang -O2 -g -Wall -target bpf -c pass.bpf.c -o pass.bpf.o sudo ip link set $INTERFACE xdp obj pass.bpf.o cat << EOF > trafgen.cfg { /* Ethernet Header */ 0xe8, 0x6a, 0x64, 0x41, 0xbf, 0x46, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, const16(ETH_P_IP), /* IPv4 Header */ 0b01000101, 0, # IPv4 version, IHL, TOS const16(1028), # IPv4 total length (UDP length + 20 bytes (IP header)) const16(2), # IPv4 ident 0b01000000, 0, # IPv4 flags, fragmentation off 64, # IPv4 TTL 17, # Protocol UDP csumip(14, 33), # IPv4 checksum /* UDP Header */ 10, 0, 1, 1, # IP Src - adapt as needed 10, 0, 1, 2, # IP Dest - adapt as needed const16(6666), # UDP Src Port const16(6666), # UDP Dest Port const16(1008), # UDP length (UDP header 8 bytes + payload length) csumudp(14, 34), # UDP checksum /* Payload */ fill('W', 1000), } EOF sudo trafgen -i trafgen.cfg -b3000MB -o veth1 --cpp Fixes: 4ff320361092 ("igc: Add support for XDP_REDIRECT action") Signed-off-by: Florian Kauer <florian.kauer@linutronix.de> Reviewed-by: Maciej Fijalkowski <maciej.fijalkowski@intel.com> Tested-by: Naama Meir <naamax.meir@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Tony Nguyen <anthony.l.nguyen@intel.com>

PHY_CONTROL register works as defined in the IEEE 802.3 specification (IEEE 802.3-2008 22.2.4.1). Tidy up the temporary workaround. User impact: PHY can now be powered down when the ethernet link is down. Testing hints: ip link set down <device> (or just disconnect the ethernet cable). Oldest tested NVM version is: 1045:740. According to the Intel Software Manual for I225, Section 7.5.2.7, hicredit should be multiplied by the constant link-rate value, 0x7736. Currently, the old constant link-rate value, 0x7735, from the boards supported on igb are being used, most likely due to a copy'n'paste, as the rest of the logic is the same for both drivers. Currently the driver accepts VLAN TCI steering rules regardless of the configured mask. And things might fail silently or with confusing error messages to the user. 2023-12-13net: ethtool: pass a pointer to parameters to get/set_rxfh ethtool opsAhmed Zaki1-13/+14
The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. The set_* should also take an extack. 2023-11-13igc: Add support for PTP .getcyclesx64()Vinicius Costa Gomes6-36/+101
Add support for using Timer 1 (i225/i226 have 4 timer registers) as a free-running clock (the "cycles" clock) in addition to Timer 0 (the default, "adjustable clock"). The objective is to allow taprio/etf offloading to coexist with PTP vclocks. Besides the implementation of .getcyclesx64() for i225/i226, to keep timestamping working when vclocks are in use, we also need to add support for TX and RX timestamping using the free running timer, when the requesting socket is bound to a vclock. On the RX side, i225/i226 can be configured to store the values of two timers in the received packet metadata area, so it's a matter of configuring the right registers and retrieving the right timestamp. The TX is a bit more involved because the hardware stores a single timestamp (with the selected timer in the TX descriptor) into one of the timestamp registers. Note some changes at how the timestamps are done for RX, the conversion and adjustment of timestamps are now done closer to the consumption of the timestamp instead of near the reception. 2023-10-18igc: replace deprecated strncpy with strscpyJustin Stitt1-1/+1
`strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. We expect netdev->name to be NUL-terminated based on its use with format strings: | if (q_vector->rx.ring && q_vector->tx.ring) | sprintf(q_vector->name, "%s-TxRx-%u", netdev->name, Furthermore, we do not need NUL-padding as netdev is already zero-allocated: | netdev = alloc_etherdev_mq(sizeof(struct igc_adapter), | IGC_MAX_TX_QUEUES); ... alloc_etherdev() -> alloc_etherdev_mq() -> alloc_etherdev_mqs() -> alloc_netdev_mqs() ... | p = kvzalloc(alloc_size, GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT | __GFP_RETRY_MAYFAIL); Considering the above, a suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer without unnecessarily NUL-padding. When users attempt to obtain the coalesce setting using the ethtool command, current code always returns 0 for tx-usecs. This is because I225/6 always uses a queue pair setting, hence tx_coalesce_usecs does not return a value during the igc_ethtool_get_coalesce() callback process. The pair queue condition checking in igc_ethtool_get_coalesce() is removed by this patch so that the user gets information of the value of tx-usecs. Even if i225/6 is using queue pair setting, there is no harm in notifying the user of the tx-usecs. The implementation of the current code may have previously been a copy of the legacy code i210. Since I225 has the queue pair setting enabled, tx-usecs will always adhere to the user-set rx-usecs value. An error message will appear when the user attempts to set the tx-usecs value for the input parameters because, by default, they should only set the rx-usecs value. This patch also adds the helper function to get the previous rx coalesce value similar to tx coalesce. How to test: User can get the coalesce value using ethtool command. Example command: Get: ethtool -c <interface> Previous output: rx-usecs: 3 rx-frames: n/a rx-usecs-irq: n/a rx-frames-irq: n/a tx-usecs: 0 tx-frames: n/a tx-usecs-irq: n/a tx-frames-irq: n/a New output: rx-usecs: 3 rx-frames: n/a rx-usecs-irq: n/a rx-frames-irq: n/a tx-usecs: 3 tx-frames: n/a tx-usecs-irq: n/a tx-frames-irq: n/a Fixes: 8c5ad0dae93c ("igc: Add ethtool support") Signed-off-by: Muhammad Husaini Zulkifli <muhammad.husaini.zulkifli@intel.com> Tested-by: Naama Meir <naamax.meir@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Simon Horman <horms@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Tony Nguyen <anthony.l.nguyen@intel.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230919170331.1581031-1-anthony.l.nguyen@intel.com Signed-off-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com>
2023-09-16igc: Fix infinite initialization loop with early XDP redirectVinicius Costa Gomes1-1/+1
When an XDP redirect happens before the link is ready, that transmission will not finish and will timeout, causing an adapter reset. If the redirects do not stop, the adapter will not stop resetting. Wait for the driver to signal that there's a carrier before allowing transmissions to proceed. Previous code was relying that when __IGC_DOWN is cleared, the NIC is ready to transmit as all the queues are ready, what happens is that the carrier presence will only be signaled later, after the watchdog workqueue has a chance to run. And during this interval (between clearing __IGC_DOWN and the watchdog running) if any transmission happens the timeout is emitted (detected by igc_tx_timeout()) which causes the reset, with the potential for the infinite loop. 2023-08-24igc: Add support for multiple in-flight TX timestampsVinicius Costa Gomes6-63/+192
Add support for using the four sets of timestamping registers that i225/i226 have available for TX. In some workloads, where multiple applications request hardware transmission timestamps, it was possible that some of those requests were denied because the only in use register was already occupied. This is also in preparation to future support for hardware timestamping with multiple PTP domains. With multiple domains chances of multiple TX timestamps being requested at the same time increase. 2023-07-26igc: Fix Kernel Panic during ndo_tx_timeout callbackMuhammad Husaini Zulkifli1-12/+28
The Xeon validation group has been carrying out some loaded tests with various HW configurations, and they have seen some transmit queue time out happening during the test. This will cause the reset adapter function to be called by igc_tx_timeout(). Similar race conditions may arise when the interface is being brought down and up in igc_reinit_locked(), an interrupt being generated, and igc_clean_tx_irq() being called to complete the TX. When the igc_tx_timeout() function is invoked, this patch will turn off all TX ring HW queues during igc_down() process. TX ring HW queues will be activated again during the igc_configure_tx_ring() process when performing the igc_up() procedure later. This patch also moved existing igc_disable_tx_ring_hw() to avoid using forward declaration.
